St Swithun's leavers consistently achieve exceptional examination results and entrance to some of the top universities in the world. Over the last three years, students have gone to study at Oxford, Cambridge, Golden Triangle, and other leading Russell Group universities, as well as top medical and dental schools and pre-eminent art schools. |
Sixth-form pupils undergo a complete University application programme, which includes being allocated a personal statement tutor and the opportunity to speak directly with admissions tutors and Old Girls about their experiences. Our Oxbridge applicants are expertly guided through the application process by the experienced Mrs Taylor and Dr Filtness.
We are very proud of the range and diversity of the courses that the students select. We facilitate this by providing a diverse A level curriculum and encouraging experiential learning and self-reflection, through the wide range of enrichment opportunities at St Swithun's.
Open to all students, the enrichment programme goes across all subjects, from attending talks by outside speakers to leading student-run academic clubs or reading groups to entering internal and external competitions.
In addition to providing students with additional intellectual challenges and stimuli, participating in these activities enhances their applications and allows students to explore their academic interests. The pupils have the information and tools to make an informed choice about their future.
Our students are increasingly considering alternative routes to UK universities. As a result, we continue to develop the opportunities and support available for overseas applications and degree apprenticeships.
Over the last three years, ten percent of our sixth-form students have applied to international universities. As well as in house support, we have developed many successful partnerships to ensure that the students have world-class support through the whole application process.
Over the last twelve months, some examples have been students who have worked with UES education for SAT preparation, The University Guys on short-listing their colleges, preparing personal statements, and working with Sports Elite to obtain sports scholarships to division 1 colleges. With this expertise, students have successfully gained places in various highly selective institutions, including Ivy League colleges in the USA.
We have developed a comprehensive employability programme within our Six Pillars of sixth-form to assist students in transitioning into the workplace, whether as a school leaver, through a degree apprenticeship or after university. This gives them the tools and skills to apply to competitive early career programmes. We have developed this with leading HR recruiters, who support the students with preparing applications and interview techniques. All L6 students will complete a mock interview; some will complete the Ivy House programme, and all will be expected to complete some work experience during their A levels.
