St Swithun’s School is a truly global community and we are always delighted to welcome students from across the world. There are many nationalities represented in the boarding houses and throughout the school. We believe that this diversity is an incredible asset to our community. |
Winchester offers a range of historic and cultural experiences for our students and we encourage them to embrace these opportunities when on offer. Our weekend activities programme is designed to showcase the best of this region and the UK with regular trips to London, walks and cycling in the New Forest and UK world-famous tourist destinations such as Stonehenge.
If students need additional English language support, St Swithun’s offers help and guidance from our EAL (English as an additional language) department.
At St Swithun’s, students celebrate this cultural diversity in our whole school ‘Culture Week’, boarding house discussions and activities and the plethora of cultural events that we recognise throughout the year from Nigerian Independence Day to the Mid-Autumn Festival and Thanksgiving celebrations.
Our boarding team are experienced in warmly welcoming and integrating our international students into the wider school body. We know that homesickness can be a significant barrier in the first few weeks and have designed a busy boarding system to help our international boarders thrive.
Indeed, we distribute boarders carefully in each house to ensure that our boarding houses have a healthy mix of international students from a variety of nationalities to help create a home-from-home atmosphere. Our expert staff are experienced in warmly welcoming and integrating our international students into the wider school body.
We have been granted a Child and Student visa sponsorship licence and so are able to invite boarders to join us from around the globe. Should assistance be required, the boarding and admissions team are available to offer expert guidance about the rules and regulations required by the UK Home Office and are available to help support students, parents and guardians/ agents with this process.
To make life easier for our international student body, we only have one Exeat weekend a year in May.
Boarding staff are always available to assist with transportation plans. We organise transfers to and from UK airports with a reputable and reliable local taxi company. All drivers are DBS checked and experienced in doing these journeys. These arranged drivers will follow the progress of all flights and modify journey arrangements, if required.
